Kosovo fieldwork: atmosphere; KFOR

Kosova/Kosovo fieldwork notes extracts

At 12.55am on the 20th of July 2005, I wrote about the "atmosphere" being "so incongruous", as Prizren, a historic town, had such a highly-visible, heavily-armed military presence. After a lie-in following a late night's work and immediately before going out to conduct fieldwork at a new site, at 11.50am on the 20th of July 2005, I wrote that:
The situation may be summarised thus: they [KFOR]'re just keeping a lid on things - both in the sense that that's the only thing they're doing and in the sense that they're only just managing to do that.
I had decided to go "to Decan(i) - to see if the monks'll tell me more than the archaeologists!"
